The Highland Cattle Society approached all members to donate a Highlander Heifer to be the first beast through the ring with the proceeds going to a charity.   Our Heifer Bess 1st of Bien Esk was chosen.   It was esitmated that 5000 people attended the official opening.
 
The First Minister Rt.Hon Alex Salmond offficially opened the new Stirling Agricultural Centre.   Mr David Leggat Executive Chairman of United Auctions took the bids and Alex Salmond with some gusto brought down the gavel at £10,000 guineas.   The determined buyer - Mr Ian Galloway, Chairman of Bridge of Allan based Scotbeef.   It's been Mr. Galloways family tradition to purchase the first beast through a new mart since the 6o's.
 
The money raised will go to the Breast Reconstruction Liaison Endowment Fund within the Plastic Surgery Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary which covers the West of Scotland.
